The Ancient Egyptian goddess Isis is probably the best known amongst the ancient deities of the Pharaohs. She was born of the god of the Earth, Geb, and the goddess of the sky, Nut, according to the Heliopolitan genealogy. She was the devoted wife of the god Osiris, the first king on earth, whom she loved very much. She bore him a son, Horus, who came to represent the sun and life to the Ancient Egyptians. Isis was the ultimate divine example of a dedicated wife and mother.

One of the most famous legends of Isis, is that of how she saved her husband and the throne of Egypt. The goddess's adversary was her brother Seth, the god of the underworld, who brought about the death of Osiris and stole his throne. Isis retrieved her husband's corpse and protected it from Seth, using her magical powers to halt and reverse the decay. Isis hovered over the body and fanned enough life into Osiris with her wings to enable her to conceive their son, the god Horus. Isis protected Horus from Seth and assisted him to regain his birthright, the Egyptian kingship, from his uncle. Isis was successful in saving Egypt from the evil Seth and is considered one of the strongest goddesses and protectors in the Ancient Egyptian Mythology.
